History
Built in British Columbia in 1988, the MV Native was designed as a tribute to the iconic sternwheelers that once travelled the Fraser River, carrying passengers, supplies, and goods between growing river communities. Since entering service in 1989, the vessel has become a recognizable part of the New Westminster waterfront, hosting sightseeing cruises, private charters, dinner cruises, and special events along the Fraser.
In 2026, the MV Native entered an exciting new chapter under new ownership, with a renewed focus on preserving the vessel’s character while creating memorable experiences for a new generation of guests. Today, she continues to celebrate the history and spirit of the Fraser River while remaining a distinctive part of New Westminster’s waterfront.

When we first discovered the paddlewheeler docked at New Westminster Pier, we saw more than a vessel, we saw an opportunity to bring people together through the rich history and beauty of the Fraser River. In February 2026, our team proudly took the helm of the MV Native, embracing the responsibility of carrying forward a waterfront tradition that has been part of this community for generations.
Today, the MV Native continues to sail with a renewed sense of purpose, honouring the Fraser River’s heritage while creating memorable experiences for every guest. From relaxing weekday cruises featuring fascinating local history to lively New Year’s Eve celebrations, each voyage offers a unique way to connect with the river, discover its stories, and make lasting memories.
